Before you hand over the keys

Use one sheet per cat when routines differ. Write the dates you will be away, the agreed visit times and how to reach you. Walk through the routine together: where food and litter are kept, how to secure doors and windows, and where the carrier is. Check that the sitter can identify each cat and knows whom to contact if you cannot be reached.

Write instructions someone else can follow

Name the usual food and the portion you already give, with meal times and bowl locations. Describe the litter tray routine and where spare supplies are stored. Include your cat’s usual hiding places and handling preferences. “One blue scoop from the sealed tub at 8 am” is more useful than “breakfast as normal”. This is a handover of your existing routine, not a suggested feeding schedule.

Keep care instructions separate from guesswork

If medication is needed, copy the current veterinary instructions and agree who will give it. Leave the labelled packaging and discuss any questions with your vet before you leave. Include both your regular clinic and the out-of-hours contact. The sheet does not authorize treatment or replace an agreement with the sitter and clinic.

Keep private details with the sitter

Fill in the PDF on your device or print it and write by hand. Send the completed sheet only to the person who needs it. Avoid adding door codes or alarm passwords to a copy that could be forwarded; arrange those separately. Agree how the sitter will report visits and changes, and update the sheet whenever the routine changes.

Questions about the printable

Can I use this for more than one cat?

Yes. Print a separate sheet for each cat with a different diet or care routine. Write a clear name or identifying description on each.

Do I need the app?

No. Both paper sizes are free to download without an account, email address or app. The PDF is a blank sheet for your own notes.
